Know When To Call The HVAC Pros
We’re all for people being self-reliant. Everyone should know how to change a tire, drive a stick shift, or set up a wireless home network.
Well, that last one is actually kind of tough. But if you can learn how to do it, be prepared for all your friends and family asking you to set up and troubleshoot their networks.
The point I’m trying to make, in a roundabout way, is that sometimes you have to use your best judgment in deciding when to bring in the professionals to get a job done.
Knowing when to make that call is of particular importance when it comes to servicing HVAC units. Of course, it’s great for homeowners and business owners to know how and when to change air filters, and to have a basic knowledge of how HVAC systems work.
But it’s when you find a huge nest of wasps on your outdoor unit or a snake or mouse hidden behind a panel that you appreciate having a pro a phone call away to come and service the unit.
And it’s not just hair-raising critters that are among the hazards. Seriously, you are playing with gases, carbon monoxide, and fire here!
Also, a malfunctioning unit can produce too much water moisture that can lead to a nasty growth of bacteria and fungus. If you fail to spot it, or just ignore it, those bacteria and fungus microorganisms can get expelled into your home or business.
Maintenance of the HEPA and carbon air filters is very important as well. Proper maintenance of your air filters, especially high-efficiency MERV filters, can reduce the incidence of “sick building syndrome.”
Another good tip is to avoid storing paint, cleaners, and similar products near your HVAC system. They may release chemical fumes that can be drawn into the airflow of your home or business. And nobody enjoys living or working in those conditions!
Our technicians are happy to share their knowledge and offer you tips that will help keep your HVAC running for years and years.
